Max Weber & Modernity

Most people don’t see modern art as art because it’s not something that everyone understands. There are several different Modern and Post-Modernist movements that have been circling the Art world. But to have a starter you need to understand the essence of time in these forms of arts and the presence or the absence of electronics.  Most of us just take mobile, camera, tv, condoms and sanitary napkins for granted!

What does one have to do with the other? well, everything has to do with everything. When we ridicule or think of modern art for the most part of history we forget that there could be multiple factors that are present and that are absent.  Like for example when  Leanardo Di Vinci was actively painting he never has cameras or video recorders and in order to preserve someone’s memory the only way for them was to create a death person painting when he was alive it’s like going to get a passport photograph in a mechanized photo booth or a PhotoStudio. They wanted to make people extremely precise and lifelike so that even if they are no longer around they would be able to see the painting and remember the good life or there smile.

You can go thru the different kinds of art in history like going thru your Facebook timeline and you will realize that modernity and modern art were a radical movement just like present-day communism, Islamic terrorism, or paranoia of RoBots taking over the world. Well according to modern art it was taken over, but by something called a PHOTOGRAPHIC PLATE or CAMERA. In the crash course video about modernity, she talks about a methodical process or procedure. That is in order to make something you need to have certain steps and these steps will complete the whole and give a complete picture. In order to achieve high levels of accuracy, every artist has a unique technique or procedure. Now, you might still know that most mason work needs a drawing or plan to complete the building a blueprint. Now since that is also taken over by machine drawing but in the old day’s everything needed an artist it was not a fashion or a hobby but professional work. And I know most people hate this but they even used scaler or wooden rules in there arts and paintings to make them the most precise and most accurate as possible and you start falling into the painting as if it was alive just like a harry pottery movie. I am going ahead of myself. Now what happened was all these practices of art were of no use to them since all you needed was a quick snap and this enraged people who are Ph.D.’s in the art world the need to be even clever and smarter.

By the time most modern painters have started the Camera or Photographic plate, were wiping their jobs like most people are crying out loud saying software is taking jobs or AI is taking over call centers or customer care or Robots are going to increase joblessness, etc. whatever Arnold Schwarzenegger you want to live in it before itself.  Guess what? Painters, Sketchers, artists all have been through this, and modern art was a result of that whole school of thinkers who made it thru by using the pure raw form of imagination and creativity.

What can you not capture with a camera?

Outer Space? Local Time? Human emotion…?  Future… or I call it Futurama…

And how to represent two different times within the same frame.

how to represent the shattering of reality and unreality.

There were several such questions that needed artistic thinking and imagination. They have all the things that cannot be captured via a camera and hence was the birth of modern art.

Few followed the “Synthesis” like combining art and photography few followed imagination, creativity, and futurism as approaches.

Few had the context of the shattered world because of world wars, famines, and nuclear weapons.  Like the most famous Pablo Picasso painting of Guernica. They know there are ways you can beat the machines or ingest them into you like a pacemaker or a nano vaccine.
